We just have had a series of no birds.  The wind has shifted from left to right and throwing the flyer has become tricky.  If you have never thrown a pheasant flyer, you will find that it can be very challenging especially into the wind.  The other affect of the wind change is that the scent coming off the back of the flyer guns has confused a few dogs and caused them to hunt short.

Pat Burns - We just finished the 2nd gun change and the conditions are changing.  In the course of a 12 hour test things are going to change.  Lighting conditions, wind and trails are some of the things that affect dog work.  We are experiencing all of the above.  The wind has been variable.  When the wind is in your face some dogs are getting deep of the marks and having substantial hunts.  It can also be very challenging to manage the end of the blind when it is unclear where the downwind side is.  If you look at the new photos you will notice how trails have developed.  And a number of them don’t take you to the birds.
